Long-haul lorries declare 6% less fuel than in 2019

Every heavy lorry sold in the EU is declared to a regulator with a simulated fuel figure for a standard route and payload. We hold 700 models' worth for 2022. Between 2019 and 2022 the median long-haul figure at 19.3 t fell from 35.2 to 33.1 litres per 100 km. The gap between the best and worst declared in 2022 is 21.9 litres per 100 km — the worst uses 88% more fuel for the same job.

A line chart of the median declared litres per 100 km for each reporting period from2019 to 2022, falling from 35.2 to 33.1, with a band showing the middle 80% of declarations in each year. The vertical axis starts at zero.01325385035.2201935.5202035.3202133.12022

The lowest declared figures in 2022

Models with at least ten declared vehicles behind the figure, on the same mission, payload, fuel and reporting period. A gap under 10% is inside the tolerance of declared figures and is not a reason to choose.
